In September 2015 the United Nations adopted new global Sustainable Development Goals.

“On behalf of the peoples we serve, we have adopted a historic decision on a comprehensive, far-reaching and people-centred set of universal and transformative Goals and targets. We commit ourselves to working tirelessly for the full implementation of this Agenda by 2030. We recognize that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. We are committed to achieving sustainable development in its three dimensions – economic, social and environmental – in a balanced and integrated manner. We will also build upon the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals and seek to address their unfinished business.”

“This is an Agenda of unprecedented scope and significance. It is accepted by all countries and is applicable to all, taking into account different national realities, capacities and levels of development and respecting national policies and priorities. These are universal goals and targets which involve the entire world, developed and developing countries alike. They are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development.” – United Nations Member States

GoChello & the SDGs

We hardly ever run into business partners who disagree with the aim and purpose of the SDGS. However, the impact that a small(er) company can make is often overlooked. We believe that also smaller companies could – and should – make an effort to grab the opportunity to create a better world. Despite the companies scale and reach.

To all of our business partner we stress that a  fruitful long-term business strategy requires attention for the prevention of (amongst others) poverty, hunger and climate change. We try to convey a similar mindset to our business partners as we have at GoChello in this respect. In addition, we help them to assess what SDG goals are relevant to their company and try to outline sustainability goals to which our willing business partners can contribute.

The main reasons why GoChello aligned its sustainability goals with the SDGs is the fact that (i) these are adopted by all United Nations Member States and (ii) are therefore well known to multiple stakeholders in the company (shareholders, employees, banks, authorities and society etc.).

By addressing the SDGs GoChello hopes to inspire others, activate, lead, provide a roadmap and that our business partners will include these in their (sustainability) strategy. We are aware that global issues require global collaboration.
